America’s first scenic roadway - Historic Columbia River Highway

The Historic Columbia River Highway, also known as the Columbia River Highway, connects the city of Troutdale to the Dalles. Constructed from 1913 to 1922, it is the oldest paved road in the Northwest. The highway is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a National Historic Landmark. It is one of the most gorgeous highways indeed. Whenever you decide to drive the Historic Columbia River Highway, it will amaze you with most breathtaking views. The greatest thing about this 75 miles-long roadway is that it was built through the Columbia River Gorge; therefore, if you take it, you will enjoy the stunning sights of this magnificent canyon.

The route passes through Multnomah Falls, a beautiful waterfall located east of Troutdale. It is the tallest waterfall in Oregon. If you a true fan of the great outdoors, then don’t limit yourself to photography, for there are a lot of hiking trails around the falls. If you prefer less crowded places, then you can just as well make a quick stop at Shepperd’s Dell Falls or Wahkeena Falls.

On your way to the Dalles, do visit Vista House, an observatory and a comfort station for tourists. Built on a cliff, it offers magnificent views of the Columbia River. Besides, there is a nice gift shop there!

If the above is not enough to satisfy your need for adventure, then do a bit of windsurfing, kitesurfing, or kayaking in Hood River, a small city that is about 30 miles north of Mount Hood, the highest peak in Oregon.
Experience America and enjoy every moment of your journey! The Historic Columbia River Highway will definitely help you explore most beautiful and fantastic locations in Oregon. However, safety comes first, so take one of our Driving Tests right now and check your knowledge!
